Hi,
Good to see someine with good ideas, I am going to build a similar HTPC for a friend of mine. A question though: Do you know what kind of WIFI chipset is used on the Asus At5IONT-I?

Ik kwam je blog eerder tegen toen ik interesse had in het AT5IONT-I bordje van Asus. Sinds afgelopen vrijdag heb ik deze in mijn bezit. Helaas bevalt hij nog niet zo goed als ik zou willen. Het afspelen van 1080p gaat lang niet altijd goed. Sterker nog; het gaat vaker mis dan dat het wel goed gaat. Ik ben daarom benieuwd of dit een driver probleem is aan mijn kant, of dat jij hier mogelijk ook last van hebt. Ik zou je daarom willen vragen de volgende YouTube video uit te proberen op je Windows 7 configuratie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSGBVzeBUbk
In zowel IE als Chrome wordt met 1080p op de pagina de video bij mij al nauwelijks meer afgespeeld en begint de tv te flikkeren. Op fullscreen 1080p gaat het pas echt mis, dan knalt de tv er helemaal uit, gaat hij langzaam flikkerend weer aan, tot hij er weer uit knalt. Aan de TV zelf ligt het niet, met de PS3 kon ik altijd alle BluRay’s in full hd afspelen, daarnaast is het een knappe tv van nog geen jaar oud. (Sony Bravia Z5500 voor als het je iets zegt:-)).
Het probleem lijkt zelfs voor te komen wanneer ik de YouTube video in 360p op full screen bekijk. Nu gaat het hier om een flash video. Bij MKV’s heb ik een soort gelijk probleem. Sommige 1080p video’s spelen goed af. Andere geven zwart beeld, waardoor ik soms niet anders kan dan de HTPC te resetten.

Allereerst erg bedankt voor deze site.
Ik heb je ook al een bericht gestuurt omtrent het probleem wat ik nu heb op XBMCFreak.nl in het forum maar wellicht kijk je daar niet of bijna niet op.
Ik heb op dit moment hetzelde moederbord als jij. Op dit moment nog passief gekoeld dus ik moet nog kijken of dat allemaal goed gaat.
Nu wil ik XBMCLive (FreakLive CD14, T2 & T3, DarmaRelase van XBMC.org etc) installeren. Ik heb telkens geen netwerkverbinding. Als ik boot van CD niet, tijdens de installatie ook een melden dat er geen DHCP adres verkregen kan worden, handmatig invoeren heeft geen zin en ga zo maar door.
Als ik na de installatie de interfaces aanpas naar DHCP aanpas en de networking (sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart) herstart krijg ik ineens een DHCP adres. Hierna kan ik ook pingen naar mijn NAS etc. Ga ik dan weer terug d.m.v. CTRL+ALT+F1/F2 heeft XBMC inderdaad wel een IP adres. Na een herstart is alles weer verdwenen en moet ik opnieuw de networking restarten alvoren ik weer een DHCP adres krijg.
Gister ook even de handleiding gevolgd : http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=38804 en dan krijg ik dus wel steeds netjes een IP adres. Alleen lukt het mij niet om XBMC op te starten etc.
Nu is mijn vraag natuurlijk aan jou, hoe heb jij in hemelsnaam XBMCLive aan de praat met een werkende netwerkconfiguratie?
Ik hoop dat je mij kunt helpen en wat van je te horen.

Haha ik denk dat ik je probleem kan oplossen.
Heb je er Windows 7 op gezet en die eerst geboot?
Het is namelijk zo dat windows iets fucked in de configuratie van de netwerkaansluiting.
Wat je moet doen is de stekker van je pc uittrekken 5 seconden wachten en terug insteken.
Zorg er voor dat je router correct werkt (dhcp ingeschakeld) en dat hij correct is aangesloten.
Voer nu de installatie nog maals uit.
Bedankt voor je reactie. Ik had eerst Windows 7 geinstalleerd, maar die is er ondertussen door alle installaties van XBMC er al af. Ik zal je tip eens proberen met het stroom er af halen.
Waar ik ook achter ben gekomen is dat ik nu in Windows 7 niet meer krijg dan 10Mbit… maakt niet uit welke netwerkkabel ik pak (andere PC 1Gbps) krijg ik inderdaad 10Mbit. Handmatig de config aanpassen heeft ook geen zin want dat wordt er geen netwerkkabel in zit… Dat Windows 7 dus wat doet met het netwerk is dan wel duidelijk…
Ik laat je zo weten of je tip heeft gewerkt!

Werkt het geluid bij jou wel zonder problemen? Ik heb mijn HTPC via HDMI aangesloten op mijn TV maar krijg geen geluid.
Kies ik analoog, via toslink naar mijn Logitech Z5400 heb ik wel navigatiegeluid, maar geen geluid bij het afspelen van video.
Zet ik het op HDMI en ook de andere op opties op “hdmi” krijg ik de melding dat ik de instellingen moet controleren.
Enig idee?

Can you try to benchmark some casual games? like Sims 3 or Left4Dead 2?

Thank you for providing an informative blog for those of us with the same setup. What build XBMC are you using now? I have the same setup with Dharma but I cannot get my video podcast to have sound! everything else has sound. XBMC 9.11 Camelot works fine, so I tried tweaking a asoundrc.conf file and upgrading ALSA and, and, and, but it seems like AAC video files have no sound. Are you experiencing the same thing? Any solutions?

Great blog of a nice HTPC build.
Built my own with the same AT5IONT-I, using XBMC Live 10.0 and have 2 problems I hope you’ve already solved :
1. Cant go to standby – the display is off for a few sec and then back on.
Posted a question in the xbmc forum, but no answer so far – http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=95742
2. set up the audio settings to be Analog -> nVidia HDA Audio (connected via HDMI directly to my TV, no reciever yet
Hope you’ve already solved these 2 problems, cause those are the last 2 things before I can finish my otherwise perfect HTPC…
Same issues here man. I dont us stand by therefore i havent looked into the issue. I use optical audio and I have no menu sounds as wel. If i find a solution I will put it on my blog!
If you have an iOS device make sure u look into the airplay tutorial!

I am trying to determine which power brick I can use with my pico-psu. I have a large number of laptop power bricks that I already own. They vary widely in supplied voltage and watt rating.
What does your power brick supply? Watts and or voltage. Does that matter much? I wonder if the pico plug can step down or control what is supplied to the board?
My picoPSU came with it’s own power brick. The voltage / current does matter. Just find the right one which fits your picoPSU.
