So everything arrived. It’s showtime!
What to do now?
It’s pretty simple:
- Unpack!
- Screw in the motherboard support screws
- Put the metal frame from the connectors in the case at the back
- Place the motherboard carefully
- Read the manual !
- Connect all the case connectors (power button, reset, HD led, power led, front usb, etc) you can find the proper locations in the manual
- Put the SSD in place
- Connect SSD power/SATA
- Connect motherboard main power
- Close the case and boot up (no long/repeating beeps = good)
One thing bothers me: the PSU makes a lot of f*cking noise. So I’ll have to buy another case or get me an external adapter with atx connectors and then throw out that noisy bastard.

Ik had hetzelfde probleem met het geluid van de voeding in mijn XGEAR case daar zat een 200 watt voeding
in en ook nog een fan op de achterkant, die heb ik eerst verwijderd en toen was het al een stuk beter maar nog altijd te veel geluid . Daarna de psu er uit gepleurd en een externe pico psu aangeschaft .
Nu is hij bijna geluidloos alleen de procc. fan draaid nog.
Dit is mijn htpc:Kingston ssdnow v 64GB
Geheugen: OCZ 2x 2GB DDR3
Moederbord: Asrock A330ION
Optische drive: LG GGC-H20L (DVDRW/BluRay/HDDVD)
Behuizing/voeding: XGEAR /voeding vervangen voor een fanless pico psu 90 met voeding 60 watt
Ik heb er nu windows 7 ultimate en ubuntu /XBMC opdraaien.
Ik wacht af hoe warm deze van jou word,Want een fanless mobo lijkt mij ook wel wat.

ik ben ook aan het uitkijken naar een oplossing, ofwel koop ik een nieuwe case met zo’n externe adapter en picoPSU ofwel koop ik enkel zon kit van 60W met picoPSU.

thank you for the blog! I would like to build a similar nettop. What is the height of the heatsinks on the motherboard? I am hoping to fit it into a much smaller case, 60(H) x 230(W) x 205(D). Do you think it would be possible? Any feedback would be greatful.
With an external power supply and no cd drive. I am hoping to fit just the motherboard and SSD into the case.
Yes that would be possible but I wouldn’t do it.
The closer the cover from the case is positioned to the motherboard heat sinks the less the heat can dissipate and flow away as you know what I mean.
i see. what would be the smallest case you would recommend?
I don’t know. Just make sure its not thinner than 6cm and has a few ventilation holes in it.
You can always cut those holes yourself off course…

Oi, geen problemen met het geheugen? Ziet er naar uit dat je de Kingston 2x1G 1333 kit hebt gebruikt, en die zullen dan wel in de eerste QVL hebben gestaan, niet? Jammer dat er niemand in de buurt woont van wie ik dergelijke kit even kan lenen om de BIOS van mijn AT5IONT-I board even te updaten…
