Choices were made – parts ordered
First things first – order the parts. It’s done, all the parts ar ordered and on their way.
Here you can find an overview of the things that will be put together to form my new HTPC.
These parts will evenutally run XBMC Live next to Windows 7 (dualboot).
I’ve tried to keep the price as low as possible with the best performance vs money value you can get…

Note: Always be careful when choosing RAM memory, be sure to check the QVL (Qualified Vendor List), which can be found on the offcial motherboard website, for compatible RAM modules. Some motherboards are very picky when it comes to RAM compatibility.
I bought the case of eBay (Germany), all the other parts from Zercom (Holland).
Total price tag: 347,09EUR (444,80USD)
Everything is ordered, the case should arrive today, the rest probably tomorrow…

Nice idea of having a blog about it. Keep us at xbmc.org forums posted. I would be very interested in this build, partitularly if it would be silent, and if somehow you can power it on using a remote.
I’ll post something at the xbmc thread whenever I update this blog
As far as Powering it on using a remote:
What I have in mind is wake on lan using my iPhone and then using the iPhone as a remote.
Good idea to make write about this in a blog. I’ll follow you.
Could you please write the price for each part individually, not only the total?
@Zsolt
Done.
Hi, do you know whether I can use Kingston’s 2GB memory instead of 1GB? I’d like to max the memory, but the only 2GB memory in QVL is too damn expensive.
You can’t. I know the 2GB memory from the QVL is impossible to pay for. And until now there hasn’t been found a replacement. That’s why I went for 2x 1GB, but if it’s not for multitasking Photoshop, Adobe Premiere and gaming at the same time – lol – than you’re perfectly fine with 2GB.
I’ve tested a full bluray in Windows 7 and it played perfectly…
Wow, what a strange motherboard. I never knew any such picky ones like this before. But thx for your information. I guess that also means 64bit OS is not necessary, either.
Indeed not necessary
Nice… thinkin about someting like this, just amd based.
Does that linworld case fit a lowprofile card ??
